CENTURY OLD HOME REMODEL, N. IRENA ST, REDONDO BEACH
This house was built as a "Beach Bunga" around 1905 out of essentaly 1x14 wood planks that had been brought in by the sailing ships to the piers at Redondo and then just nailed to a subfloor and top roof plates and had no interior framing! We therefore had to install all new framed walls on the inside of the boards and then apply drywall to that framing. The roof was completely re-framed also with 2x14 lumber to bring it up to modern codes in order to support a new roof. The floors had to be shimmed in order to make them flush and then a new plywood subfloor was applied. We also completely removed the old exterior front and rear retaining walls in order to replace them with new block walls and to move the rear part of the driveway back for more parking space. This is the main house on the lot and was completed after we renovated the rear rental house which was even older.
